How to Clean Produce

Okay, veggies come from a variety of sources especially when transported. No matter if they are organic or not, you get crap on your food before you ever get a chance to eat it, even if it comes from your back yard.

From the research I've done over the years, this is what I've found to be the best and most effective way to clean your produce.

1. Start with a clean counter top

2. Rinse veggies in a colander with clean tap water

3. Get out your vinegar (nothing special, plain white vinegar is perfect for this)

4. Rinse the produce with the vinegar, this will kill any bugs/bacteria, etc and help remove the dirt much better than anything else will.

5. Get out your Hydrogen peroxide (the normal stuff you can get anywhere)

6. Rinse the produce with this. This will break the vinegar. Vinegar is an acid and will continue to break down your produce if you only rinse with it. The hydrogen peroxide will break down the vinegar and leave your produce with Oxygen and Water as the basic byproduct. When H2O2 hits the vinegar it breaks it and breaks itself down into H2O and O2.

7. Dry your produce

8. Process and store as you see fit.

Voila your produce is clean and safe to eat with all dirt/contaminants removed.Works Cited:
